A turbo trainer game that allows the user to ride with other cyclists in a virtual environment, Zwift has grown significantly in recent years. Its growth was especially highlighted by the first-ever Zwift National Championships, a one-day race in February that took place in 15 countries where Zwift membership activity is highest; in addition to the United States, entry into the virtual race was available for Zwift members living in Canada, Germany, Japan, Norway, and France, among other countries. The winner of the race in each country earned the right to wear a custom National Championship jersey until next year's event.
Adam Zimmerman emerged victorious in a field of more than 300 riders in the United States National Championships' male-only event and did so with the help of a dedicated team and a well-planned strategy. While he and his other Team Draft members were busy jockeying for position in the virtual race, team director Scott Cunningham was feeding them vital information such as the heart rate, cadence, and power of other riders, all of which was available via the companion Discord app. Claudia Behring won the women's event and also attested to the importance of teamwork.
